My EDM 310 Blog Assignments are now complete!!

I really enjoyed this class and i really learned alot in it. I never would have known where to begin to try to create my own website and i never even knew about blogs before this class. I also learned about the payout table and what not. Now i still need a little practice on that but i downloaded all the videos even though it took about ten hours on my laptop. Your videos really helped me alot if it weren't for those i would be completely lost. It's really nice to have a teacher take so much of there time to do the videos to help us out. All in all i really enjoyed the class and learned alot!!

Good luck to everyone!!

Wikipedia

Wikipedia to me anyways now can't be trusted. I have used it many many times before but i never knew that just anyone could go an edit others writing. But it's "supposedly" an encyclopedia than can be edited. Well basically everyone goes an edits everything that they don't like is being said about them, or the company, ex.
Now don't get me wrong some information is true but not all of it. I think that everyone should read those links to know what Wikipedia is all about!!!

WGBH Teacher Domain

I watched the video on Global Warming and i found it quite interesting. I feel like i could use this technology in and out of the classroom. Teachers could plan ahead on their lessons and have videos like this available in their classrooms. I feel like as a teacher you personally need to interact with your students but it's not such a bad idea to have a backup plan if something were to happen. Now almost everyone has access to the Internet so teachers could also post these videos on the Internet for students who have missed class or for those who do quite catch on so quickly.
The video i watched was about global warming. It talked about how carbon dioxide contributes to global warming. They show a special heat radiated camera that picks up heat radiation from body heat. Someone sits in front of the camera and it show them in color. When you turn on the gas the image fades. To pretty much wrap the lesson up the earth warms when carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere.

"Growth" vs. "Fixed Minds"

I wasn't really knowing what to expect when watching this video but after watching it i realized it is pretty self explanatory. The video is about students who have fixed minds meaning that they believe that their fixed intelligence is a fixed trade. They basically base their activities on whether their intelligence will be shown to advantage. The session that has been put together has seemed to help the children in their schooling. The teachers could pick the students out who had it with out really knowing who they were.
This will affect me and everyone as a teacher because it is our job to help the student have a "Growing" mind. If a child is fixed on something it takes a lot to help them change their ways. It is our responsibilities as teachers to notice problems like these and the best way to solve them.

iTunes

iTunes University has put the iTunes store to work for alot of colleges and universities. iTunes has done this so they can easily download, search, and play course content just like movies and music. It's pretty simple you just search for it like you would anything else.
iTunes is always available, it delivers 24/7 access to educational content from hundreds of top colleges and universities, ex. It benefits both teachers as well as students. It helps teachers with assignments and activities and it helps students learn better. http://www.apple.com/education/itunesu_mobilelearning/itunesu.html

ipods

Duke University gave 1,650 incoming freshman a free ipod this fall as a part of an experiment they wanted to do dealing with creative academic uses for the devices.
The students will be able to use the devies to download course content, record lectures, foreign language lessons, ex.
Pretty much the object is to expand the use of information in the campus community and in the classroom as well. The school estimates this project will cost more than 500,000. The freshman will be able to keeps the ipods and there aremore ipods that upperclassman can use, but they have to return them. Best of November

I read Karls blog the best of November which was titled why wireless. Well i thought that the newsletter that she wrote for the paper was very good. I can also see why it was probably necessary to write. I'm sure that if some parents found out that the school was getting wireless internet and didn't really get an explantion than they could get a little upset.
I personally think that its great that the school got wireless internet, there is just so much information avalible and its easy to get to. Karl is right we need to prepare the world for how it is now, not how it was 20 or so years ago. I totally agree with Karl about the whole internet thing, i know that when I need to do a report or order something i want to go to the internet. I dont want to go to the library all day or sit on the phone for 1 hour on hold, why do that when we have the internet?

Link to Fischbowl

As i read Karls blog I'v understood that shes a very upfront person who feels free to speak her mind. I feel that this is a good thing, although there are probably some people who disagree with some things that she says. Karl is right "Technology is the underpinning of just about everything we do today."

We communicate on the internet, we email, my space, facebook, look up information, type papers, ex. I do also agree with her about the fact that teachers really should be technologically literate. I honestly believe that everyone should be to a certain extent. Technology is expanding major and fast and people need to get on track now because computers will probably someday control the world, and they are getting more complex everyday and the longer people wait the harder its going to be to learn.

more blogs..

Another site i visited abou teachers usings blogs in the classroom was http://www.soc.northwestern.edu/gradstudents/huffaker/papers/Huffaker2005_LetThemBlog.pdf
It is basically saying let the children and teachers use the blogs in classrooms as well as outside the classrooms. It is somewhat like a journal to the and helps them be more interactive with technology.

blogs...

I found a site on teachers using blogs and in their blogs they basically put information about classroom rules and what is expected from the studens. They aslo have assignments posted for students although not everyone has access to a computer most people do. It helps students and teachers interact outside of the classroom.

ACCESS

"In November 2005, Gov. Bob Riley, as well as the Alabama Department of Education. launched ACCESS distance Learning as an exciting new method of delivering high-quality courses state wide, including areas where there might not have been available before." ACCESS provides opportunities for Alabama public School students to learn in AP, elective and many more courses where they might not have had further access to.
The ACCESS program provides high-quality classroom courses, teachers, and technology. Te program uses much technology through video-cams as well as other resources to interact with the teachers as well as students interacting with other students about the classes. This program seems like it will really help benefit students who would like more challenging and more classes which they cant get. Through the ACCESS program there are also many resources available to teachers. ACCESS gives all sorts of web links for art counseling, lesson plans, technology, English, math ex. to teachers. This program benefits students as well as teachers.

Using (ALEX)

I already know that when i become a teacher i will definitely use the (ALEX) program. I recently took a class where i had to get on the website and get different lesson plans in math. The website is easy for me to use and it offers so much information.
When i begin to teach i will use the program mostly for lesson plans, although it offers much more. There are millions of lesson plans on every subject and just about every grade. Teachers may use the same lesson plans on the website and i may as well but it also gives teacher great ideas on lesson plans as well. I will also use the program to access the different websites that it offers, for example: the different subjects, grant opportunities, lesson plans ex. I am very excited about becoming a teacher and can't wait to actually be able to use this website!

(ALEX)

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) program/website seems very helpful to teachers. It is basically a program designed to help teachers get information about lesson plans, access to certain web links, and offers other many helpful resources. It has a lot of information that teachers can and probably and do use, i think it is espically helpful to newer teachers.
The website offers courses of study, web links, lesson plans, search, personal workspace, professional learning, distance learning, and help. The courses of study allows you to for example: to choose a subject and from that subject choose what title of the subject and then it gives you all kind of information about it as well as different lesson plans you can go to on the subject. The website also offers incredible links to websites that would be very helpful to teachers. The lesson plan link allows you to pick a subject and grade to access different lesson plans. This website offers so much information that will help teachers.

fisch bowl movie

I was actually a little bit shocked about the information i learned from the movie on fisch bowl. I do and did realize that technology is advancing everyday and that we have come very far in even the last five years. I did not realize that technology was increasing so rapidly. I was very shocked to learn this. I was also shocked to learn that some kids are in college for certain things that don't exist or that they are preparing for that may exist one day. Which that is a great idea but its scary to think that people are actually doing that. I learned a lot from this short movie and i think its information that others should know about to.
